Uvari Kappal Madha Church aka Selva Matha ChurchFondly called as Kappal Madha Church, this is a modest church for St. Mary that was managed by the rectors of Goa mission that existed in the region. The church is located in the small fishing village of Uvari in Tirunelveli district. The church is one of its kind that it is literally designed in the shape of a ship and hence the name Kappal Madha church, where 'kappal' means ship in the local language of Tamil.
It is so intricately designed that it faces the sea and a distant view of the church will make the visitors feel that the whole church is floating in the sea water! Likewise, sandal paste is prepared in a large pot during the important mosque festivals and sent to the Ravanasamudram village and the pot is brought to the mosque as a part of the festivities.
